  1. I think this is irresponsible…. why are you wasting food when people are hungry? It’s a sad day for Earthfare…. This is a stunt that Ingles would do… Two thumbs down Earthfare. :(

  4. I think Tom definitely won. But I also think this stunt was very wasteful. Those were perfectly good watermelons, and I think they should have opted to do something more useful with them than smashing them. Donate them to a homeless shelter so that those people could have some watermelon on the 4th of July, or pass them out as free samples in your store so that people could see/taste how good they are & want to buy one, or anything else besides wasting them! Smashing them was such a wasteful thing to do. Next time, please think of a less wasteful way to kick off the holiday weekend.

  5. Bonnie and TJ – Thank you for posts and comments. We understand that some of this watermelon was wasted for this video – but most of it was not. We ate all of what we could once we were finished shooting the video. Again, we appreciate your feedback!

  6. Who cares who won? You guys were having a blast!!! We love our Earth fare here in Chattanooga. We are in the store three & Four times a week. The people are friendly & each know their job. We look forward to each visit…….

  7. Jack, and Earth Fare gang;

    I’d like to offer a solution to wastefulness that I see from Earth Fare on almost a daily basis.

    Please stop asking us to PRINT your coupons, and instead have them emailed or sent via SMS to our mobile phones, PLEASE.
    I email them to my mobile phone and they work fine at checkout.
    It’s simple programming to add 2 buttons and the code to your site.

    And it would save a ton of wasted paper.
    Come on, Earth Fare. Come on, Jack! You can get with the times and do better. A couple watermelons that you eat.. no big deal. how many years of paper coupons though!?!?

    thanks, Nelson

  8. Nelson,
    Thanks for your post and support. You don’t need to print our e-mail coupons. You can simply jot down the PLU (5 digit number) from the coupon on a scrap piece of paper and give that to the cashier. Or you can simply show the cashier the coupon on your mobile device. – Jack

  9. Hey Jack,

    I contacted you a few months ago and shared some of my thoughts with you on childhood obesity prevention. Since that time I was able to get with Laurie Aker into quite a few schools in the Richland School District One area. She did a great job last year and the school district was very pleased with her work. I just thought you should know.

  10. Ron, Thanks for letting me know that it worked out and they were pleased with Laurie’s work. Thanks too, for all you do in working for childhood obesity prevention. – Jack
